The number of electric vehicles (EVs) is witnessing a slow and steady increase. The primary factor driving this growth is the availability of adequate charging stations. There are more than a dozen models available, but here is a list of the best and affordable EVs:

Kia Niro EV

This model replaces Kia’s hybrid powertrain with strong electric motors that provide excellent performance. The Niro EV provides intelligent internal storage and user-friendly infotainment, making it an excellent option. You do not have to spend a long time charging with the standard SAE charging. Priced at $39,545, the Niro EV range is about 239 miles.

Hyundai KONA Electric

Since its launch, the KONA Electric has gained immense popularity. The high range (258 miles) gives competition to some of the best electric cars in the luxury segment. The SAE combination charger is provided on all trims allowing the DC voltage to directly pass onto the car’s battery. The KONA EV comes with pleasant interiors, adjustable regenerative braking, and rapid acceleration, making it an excellent option at a price of $38,085.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

This model is surprising in multiple ways. Before the launch of the Niro and KONA, Bolt was the only EV that offered a range of about 250 miles. The cargo space is very useful with firm front seats and a unique infotainment system. Priced at $37,890, the Bolt delivers exceptional performance at this price.

Nissan Leaf

The newly redesigned Leaf is much better than the previous generation model. The new Leaf is more comfortable and quieter and offers plenty of range to commute between any distances. The range is between 149 and 226 miles. The steering wheel is not provided with a telescope that may be slightly uncomfortable if you are tall; however, the Leaf comes with several strengths. The new model is priced at $32,525 with the Leaf Plus offering a longer range at a slightly higher price.

BMW i3

Although it may look a little weird and may be considered a little expensive at $44,450, the BMW i3 comes with some excellent features. The carbon-fitted chassis enhances the stiffness while decreasing the weight. The model is a city EV with a lower range of 153 miles, but it is very easy to park and comes with good interiors where you can have good times.

Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Hyundai is bringing in newer electric vehicle models, but its first model in this segment was Ioniq, which is still available. Priced at a little over $30,000, the Ioniq is a basic electric vehicle. However, the new model released for 2020 offers a higher range of 170 miles that is more than the previous generation.

Mini Cooper SE

The Mini Cooper SE Electric was launched in March 2020 and is one of the most affordable EVs. The car is priced at $29,900 (excluding delivery); however, with local and state incentives and federal tax credit, you may own this EV for as less as $20,000. However, this EV has a short range of only 110 miles, which is something you need to consider before making your buying decision.
